Yes!! I did the treadmill 4 days last week, took the day off yesterday (Sunday) and was back on there this afternoon. So far I'm only doing 20 mins at a slow speed, but it's something! After the 20 mins I am sweating and breathing hard, so I know I'm making a difference. I have a set of headphones and watch movies while I walk. I decided I'm going to give every movie a short review when I'm done with it. I'll share my ratings on this blog. They'll be mostly older movies, because I have a VHS player in the room where the treadmill is, but since I can get VHS tapes for free, I'll just use that for the time being. It works fine and it gives me something to take my mind off the drudgery of exercise and something to look forward to when I get on the treadmill each time.
I need to get the dieting portion of this strategy online now. I am going to do the fast diet, but need to have a plan for the days when I'm not fasting. I may do something very structured for a short time just to get myself going so I can lose some quickly and feel successful. I think I'll go back to Spark People and being logging in my foods again.
I haven't weighed in since I've been exercising, but that is because I don't think I've lost much, if anything, because I'm still eating poorly. I will weigh in after a few days of food counting so that I'll be encouraged.

Okay, well, I didn't start 4 months ago either. As you can tell, this is truly an inspirational blog! (NOT!)
But it WILL be! In fact, having a few false starts will probably eventually BE inspirational, because I WILL succeed! So when people read the blog and see that I persevered even though it took me forever to get started, well... that will be inspirational, right? Right!
So it's time to get serious. Especially since my last check-up with my nurse practitioner wasn't very good. In fact, it was awful. I am ONE POINT below the threshold for type 2 diabetes due to my weight, diet and lack of exercise. My NP said she would give me until May and if my blood sugar wasn't lower, I'd have to go on medication and start checking my blood, etc.
I DON'T WANT TO DO ALL THAT!
So I cancelled my appointment in May because, once again, I didn't get going on taking care of myself. I need to reschedule the appointment and I need to lose some weight and get on to a good diet before I see her again! Gaaaaahh!
I made vegetable soup to eat when I am hungry between meals. It's made with fat-free chicken broth and the following veggies: carrot, snow peas, green beans, diced tomato, brocolli, onion, garlic, red bell pepper, celery, zucchini and these herbs: basil, bay leaf, black pepper and a little Italian herbs mixture. These are all the veggies that don't "count" because they are so high in fiber and low in glucose and calories. I have 3 containers in the freezer and one in the fridge.
I also did 20 minutes on the treadmill today, yay! I only walked at 2mph and I was sweating all over by the time I was done. I started watching a movie called The Name of the Rose while walking which I'll continue each time. I use a pair of headphones to listen to the movie, because my treadmill is sorta loud.
Fingers crossed that I can make this stick and get on a roll!

Oh dear!! Here it is almost five months later! What happened?? Okay, to be honest, I just plain didn't start. I'm sure many who are reading this have done the same thing. Best of intentions and then not starting at all. The worst part is, that in the meantime I've gained yet MORE weight! I now tip the scales at a "Rubenesque x3" 250 pounds!! Ugh!! This is the heaviest weight I have EVER been in my entire life.
So, I'm NOT going to waste space here beating myself up about this. Instead, I'm going to take action, finally. I have decided to try the fast diet. I think the 2 days of near fasting (can have 500 cals) are do-able for me, and then I can just eat regular stuff, moderately, on the other 5 days without having to count unless I decide that I want to. Which I probably will at some point, since I will want to increase my rate of loss when I hit a plateau. Today is a fast day (I'm planning on Monday and Thursday), so I am going to start my day with a hard boiled egg on a piece of multigrained toast. At mid-day I may have a banana, then perhaps a salad or soup for dinner. AND I'm going to walk today. My treadmill isn't usable at the moment, since I have boxes of Christmas things that need to go out to my shed in there and there's no room to fold it out. But, if I don't get to putting those out today, I will simply walk outside.
So, that's the plan!

So, I lost 15 pounds in the month of June. That was the start of this journey, really. I was 245 pounds, which is my highest number EVER in my life. In June I started walking daily on my treadmill and restricting calories, eating 5x a day, small meals with low fat/low carb choices. I didn't actually lose as fast as I used to be able to - in the past I could have easily lost 20 in a month. But, menopause and metabolic changes have made it harder to take off the weight.
Anyway, after losing 15 in June I was fairly pleased and gung-ho to keep going! Then my treadmill started to slip! I tried fixing it several times with no luck. I found youtube videos that demonstrated what to do, and I tried that. No luck. I was so disappointed and discouraged that I stopped my walking program all together. Needless to say, I havent lost an ounce since the end of June. In fact, this morning I'm up by 2.5 pounds to 232.5.
Today's goal is to get back on that treadmil and see if the last time I adjusted it might have done the trick. If not, then I will have to come up with another strategy for getting my walking in. There are a few more days in August, and I'm aiming to get back to the 230 mark by the first day of Sept, so I can continue from there. My goal for Sept. is to lose another 15 pounds! I'm having allergy issues right now, otherwise I'd have gotten on the treadmill already. But, in general, I do better to exercise in the afternoon or evening, just more motivated then. So, stay tuned!
